No Hot Water? Water Heater Repair in Lake Stevens, WA

When a water heater stops making hot water, the cause depends on its fuel. Gas heaters usually lose their pilot, sensor or gas valve; electric heaters usually lose an element, thermostat or breaker. A few safe checks narrow it down, and a technician can confirm the rest in one visit.

If you smell gas

Leave the house, avoid switches and phones inside, and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not try to relight anything until the smell has been checked.

Safe checks before you call

  • Is it every faucet or just one?

If only one faucet is cold, the problem is likely that fixture or its valve, not the heater.

  • Electric: has the breaker tripped?

Check the panel. Reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, stop and call, because something is failing.

  • Gas: is the pilot or burner lit?

Look at the window on the gas control. If the pilot is out, follow the lighting instructions on the label, once. If it will not stay lit, call.

  • Is the thermostat where you left it?

A setting that was bumped, or a recent power outage, can explain a cold heater.

  • Was there recent work or a power interruption?

Outages and plumbing work can trip safety limits or drain the tank. Mention it when you call.

  • Seeing one of these?

Call and describe it. A technician will tell you what to expect.

Questions about no hot water repair

Still have a question? Call and ask a technician directly.

Why did my hot water heater stop heating water?

Common reasons are a tripped breaker or power outage on electric units, a pilot light that went out on gas units, a failed element, thermostat or gas control, a tankless unit throwing an error code, or sediment. A technician can find which in one visit. Start with our guide to why a water heater is not heating.

Why do I have hot water in the kitchen but not the shower?

That points to the shower valve or cartridge rather than the water heater, since the heater is supplying hot water elsewhere.

How long does it take to get hot water back after a repair?

A storage tank needs time to reheat a full tank of water. We will give you a realistic estimate on site.

Is no hot water an emergency?

It is disruptive but not dangerous by itself. If there is also a leak, a gas smell or a tripping breaker, treat it as urgent.

What if it turns out to be the tank?

If the tank is leaking or has failed, repair is not possible and we will walk you through replacement.

Hot water still out? Call and we will help you sort it out.
